Former Executive Recruiter
Novorésumé's CV templates are modern, eye-catching, and professional-looking. As a former Recruiter, I would be impressed if a job seeker sent their CV using one of these formats.
The layouts are interesting and will grab an employer's attention, without ever being too distracting. This is something that a lot of CV templates struggle to get right - they're either too simple and plain, or too colorful and distracting, which can end up costing you jobs. Novorésumé did a great job of finding a balance with their CV templates, which I believe will help you get more interviews.
Career Strategist, Coach & Trainer
Even for professionals, with 5+ years of experience, Novorésumé has a variety of templates with different options for layouts. What I love about this section is that the end result is nevertheless professionally crafted, easy to read and eye-catching.
The common challenge I encounter in my work with ambitious professionals is the struggle to comprise many years of work experience in max. 2-3 pages. Not only the design alone but the content and the structure of such templates on Novorésumé's website makes a CV writing a constructive and fun experience.
What is a Curriculum Vitae (CV)?
A Curriculum Vitae, or CV for short, is a professional document that summarizes your work history, education, and skills. The main purpose of a CV is to sell you, as a candidate, to prospective employers.
When applying for a position, you’re always going to be asked for a CV, coupled with a cover letter.
What’s the Difference Between a CV and a Resume?
If you ask a European, the answer is that the two (for most people) are the same thing.
The term “resume” is more popular in the US, while “CV” is a lot more commonplace in Europe.
In the US, however, a CV sometimes refers to an academic CV - pretty much the same thing as a resume, but a lot more comprehensive.
While a resume is short (one, two pages max) and comprehensive (only the relevant experience), an academic CV can be as many pages as you need, covering everything you’ve ever done in your career.
Now, you’re probably wondering, are these CV templates the same as the resume template ones, or are they for academic CVs?
The answer is both - you can use our templates for both purposes! If you’re looking for an academic CV, just add more pages. If you’re looking for a traditional CV, just stick to the one-page limit.

What to Include in a CV?
The most common sections that go on a CV are the following:
Contact Information - Your contact info. This includes email, name, professional title, and social profiles.
Resume Summary (or Resume Objective) - You can look at the resume summary as an introduction to your resume. It’s a small paragraph (2-4 sentences) that goes on top of your CV and gives a snapshot of your work history. Usually, it includes job titles, years of experience, and one or two top achievements. A resume objective, on the other hand, is suited for candidates with limited work experience, as it focuses more on intent to work at the company and skill-set.
Work Experience - Your work history in reverse-chronological order. Think, starting from the latest, and ending with the earliest.
Skills - A shortlist of your top competencies. This includes both soft skills and hard skills.
If you want to add some personality to your CV, or if you’re a recent graduate with not a lot of work experience, you can also include some of the optional sections - hobbies & interests, volunteering experience, and personal projects.
How Long Should a CV Be?
The answer to this, of course, depends on what kind of Curriculum Vitae you’re talking about. If by CV you mean the same thing as a resume, it should be 1 page, 2 pages max.
If, on the other hand, you want to create an academic CV, then it can be as many pages as you need it to be!
What’s the Best CV Template?
Spoiler: there’s no such thing as the “best cv template.” There’s no “best CV” either.
Everything related to CVs is highly subjective. One recruiter might LOVE your creative resume template, another might think it’s super tacky.
So, how do you pick the best CV template for the job YOU’RE applying for? Our rule of thumbs is:
Are you applying for a company that values innovation and creativity? Pick a creative curriculum vitae template.
Applying for a more conservative company? E.g. bank, law firm, etc. Pick a more professional CV template.
Does the company you’re applying for fall somewhere between the two types we mentioned? Then pick a modern or simple CV template.

PDF CV Templates vs. Word CV Templates
At Novorésumé, all our CV templates are in PDF format for several reasons. Namely, PDF looks much better across all devices and is a lot more secure than Word.
The only reason that Word CV templates were a standard a few years back was that most Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) could not read PDF.
This is NOT true for 2023, and overall, PDF is a much better format.
Are These Free CV Templates?
Yes and no.
All CV templates on Novorésumé are free to use.
However, if you want to take full advantage of all our premium features - including personalization, and cover letter templates - then you’ll need to upgrade.
